Your Key to Our World

James' Sites

The Stratemeyer Syndicate was a "book packager" established in 1905 to supply publishers with juvenile and adult books in series. It was the brainchild of Edward Stratemeyer (1862-1930) who was a writer and editor of juvenile stories.

The site is devoted to information about the creator of Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, the Bobbsey Twins, the Rover Boys and many other juvenile series book characters.

Do you like to read books with Time Travel in them? If so, this searchable database will help you find more of them. There are over 3,000 books entered so far and more are being added all the time. You can search by title, author, method of time travel, people met on the journey, etc. If you want to find books where someone travels back to the Civil War, search for them here!

Find more books to read, even if you don't have the time to read them. With time travel books, you could always read them in your time machine!

Series Book Magazine Index

Interested in children's series books? Don't know where to get more information about your favorite author, illustrator, series, or character? There are many good references out there but some remain relatively little known.

Another problem was that there was no way to know which issues of the magazine have the info you want--until now! I have indexed many of the references you might need to find info on juvenile series books to make it easier for you to do your research.

Search by author, subject, title, periodical, etc. It has never been easier to find information about series books.

Web Development

I currently teach for the San Diego Community College District part-time (about 8 hours a week, in the evenings and weekends). My class schedule is available at

A computer programmer by trade, I specialize in LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP). I have experience with Google Maps API, CSS, DHTML, Flash and Actionscript, and many other technologies which you might care to use for interactive and interesting web pages.

I am currently seeking full-time employment as a PHP developer. Please see my resume for more information about my qualifications and then email me to set up an interview.

Short-term or contract projects are also an option. If you have such a project, please contact me.

At Mineral Hall, one souvenir you could buy was a "Mineralland" rock. It is labeled as being from the Disney's True-Life Adventures. Here is a chart of our collection of these rocks.

Disneyland 8mm films
A popular souvenir in Disneyland were films. We are collecting them, especially for footage of the Mine Train.

Series Books

Hardy Boys on DVD

Walt Disney Presents the Mickey Mouse club serial of the Hardy Boys and the Mystery of Applegate Treasure is now out on DVD. On Disc 1, a featurette called "From Dixon to Disney" contains portions of an interview I did for the material in Feb 2006. Buy it on Amazon or your local store.

Signed Series Books

Take a look at a number of signatures from series book authors and artists.

Bobbsey Twins Format Page

If ever there was a series that is regularly misidentified by sellers (on eBay or elsewhere), it is the Bobbsey Twins. All series books can be difficult to identify for those unfamiliar with how to do it, but Bobbsey Twins books regularly get listed as "first editions" when the person has a much later reprint. This page gives info on some of the common formats to help you identify whether you have that valuable first printing.

Edward Stratemeyer

He was the creator of Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, the Bobbsey Twins, the Rover Boys, and more. Find out more about his life, writings, and the people with which he worked. I am writing a biography about him. This web site contains just some of the information I have gathered in my years of research.

2005 Anniversary of the Stratemeyer Syndicate

2005 marks the 100th year since Stratemeyer founded the syndicate. It is also the 75th anniversary of Nancy Drew (who still lives on in books by the current owners of the series, Simon & Schuster) and the 95th anniversary of Tom Swift (my favorite series and being brought back in 2006 by Simon & Schuster). In June 2005, there was a conference held in New York to celebrate the syndicate. Click on the days to see photo galleries of the events described.
